If the duplicate records are leads, you can merge them together into a single lead. Open one of the duplicate leads. Click Find Duplicates. Select the duplicate leads you want to merge. Click Merge Leads.

If you choose to create a new Account, you will create a duplicate Account with the new Lead. Choosing to attach the Lead to the existing Account will create a new Contact on the existing Account.
