  1. Navigate to Setup.
  2. In the Quick Find box, type and navigate to Duplicate Rules.
  3. Select New. Now select the object you want the duplicate rule to be on.
  4. Enter a name for the rules, a description of what the rule does, and security settings.
  5. Now, select what happens when a user creates a duplicate.
  6. Next, select the matching rule that determines how a record would be identified as a duplicate record.
  7. Activate and Save.

Leads and Contacts are a bit more complicated. Sometimes users will say “I want to prevent Lead duplicates.” Or “I want to prevent Contact duplicates.” Both great goals, but still does not solve the total duplicate problem, even in tandem.

3. Lead-to-Lead Email Exact Match

Purpose: To prevent the creation of multiple Leads with the exact same email.

4. Lead-to-Contact Email Exact Duplicate Rule

Purpose: To prevent the creation of multiple Leads-to-Contacts with the exact same email.

5. Contact-to-Contact Email Exact Duplicate Rule

Purpose: To prevent the creation of multiple Contacts with the exact same email.
