  • Log into Salesforce and click Setup
  • In the Build menu, go to Customize > Contacts > Fields
  • Select Email Opt Out
  • Click View Field Accessibility You may need to re-select Email Opt-Out from a drop-down menu
  • If the field access next to System Administrator says Hidden or Read-Only, click on it to change this setting
  • In Field-Level Security, confirm the following settings: Visible is checked Read-Only is unchecked
  • Click Save
  • Repeat steps 2-7 for Leads

To make the the 'Email Opt Out' field visible to all or specific profiles:
  1. Click on: Setup | App Setup | Customize | Contacts | Fields.
  2. Click on the 'Email Opt Out' field.
  3. Cick on the "Set Field-Level Security" button on top and then check the "Visible" box for desired or all profiles.
  4. Click on Save.
