If you only want to change ownership of the contact, and not the account, you need to do the following: 1. Make sure that the Contact Owner field is visible on the Contact Page Layout. 2. View (don't edit; that won't work) the record of the contact whose ownership you want to change. 3. Beside the Contact Owner's name, you will see [Change].
