Steps to reproduce.

  • Select Object: Opportunity.
  • Fill up Rule Name.
  • For Evaluation Criteria; select Evaluate the rule when a record is: created, and any time it's edited to subsequently meet criteria.
  • Select Run this rule if the ‘Criteria are met’.
  • For the Criteria, Select ‘Opportunity: Won’, ‘Equals’, ‘True’.
  • Save and next, then click on add a workflow action, select ‘New field update’.
  • Fill up the name, unique name and description.
  • Select field to update ‘Opportunity’, ‘Closed Date’.
  • Click on ‘Use a formula to set the new value’, then paste the formula: Priorvalue (Closedate)

The date of a closed Case cannot be manually edited. This field is considered to be an 'audit field' and is set when the case is moved to the Closed status.
