Testing Your Pull Action Setup
The steps to test your pull action setup depends on whether you have a Salesforce Sandbox Account. If you have a Salesforce Sandbox and have set it up under Account > Integrations > 3rd Party Integrations in Alchemer then you're all set to record test responses using your sandbox.
Set Up the Salesforce Marketing Cloud Integration
1. Make sure API access is enabled in your Marketing Cloud account first. If you don't know if it's enabled, it probably isn't. Call Salesforce Marketing Cloud and ask the fine folks there to please enable it.
Action Modes: Push and Pull
Once you have linked your account, you can go back to the Build tab and click Add New Action on the page where you need your Marketing Cloud action. There are two action modes available: Pull or Push.
Pull Example 1: Format a Salesforce Marketing Cloud Email to Pass Info to Alchemer
In order to tell Alchemer how to get information from your Marketing Cloud account, you need to pass the Marketing Cloud subscriber's email address. Specifically, we need to create a link to the Alchemer survey that includes a URL parameter, then merge in the personalization code from SF Marketing Cloud.
Pull Example 2: Lookup Info in Your SF Marketing Cloud Email List
Now that we've passed the email address via a link, we can turn to Alchemer's SF Marketing Cloud Pull action to fill in survey data from the SF Marketing Cloud database.
Push Example 1: Push Info from Alchemer to Salesforce Marketing Cloud
1. Click Add New Action in the survey builder, give it a name, then choose SF Marketing Cloud - Push. Click Add Action and Edit.

Creating an Account
To do so, simply head over to https://developer.salesforce.com/ and hit the Sign Up button up at the top. Fill out the form to create your account.
Salesforce Methodology & Terminology
You can think of your data in Salesforce as essentially a database, containing a number of tables (think spreadsheets) which consist of rows and columns. You can think of these with the following vocabulary for Salesforce:
Standard Objects
Salesforce has a number of built-in objects complete with pre-configured fields and records. Let's check out the Contacts object. At the top of the Setup screen is a navbar for quickly getting to any of your objects (or the ones you need the quickest access to). When you click on "Contacts" you'll be presented with... not much.
Custom Objects
But of course Salesforce's built-in objects will only get you so far, so let's create our own. Back in Setup (remember that you can always get back to the Setup screen by clicking "Setup" up in the top right). When you're there find "Create" in the navbar on the left and then click "Objects" under that.
Custom Fields
A custom object won't get you very far without fields to populate, so let's create a new field in our object. Scroll down a bit when looking at your object and under "Fields" hit "New".

What's the difference between an Insert and Upsert?
