Turn on data sync and lead creation
  1. Navigate to the Settings tab.
  2. Toggle the Data Sync slider on.
  3. If you want to create new Salesforce leads from your Mailchimp subscribers, toggle the slider to a checkmark for Allow Mailchimp to create Leads in Salesforce.

How to import contacts into Mailchimp?

To import your contacts to Mailchimp, follow these steps. Click the Audience icon. Click Audience dashboard. If you have more than one audience, click the Current audience drop-down and choose the one you want to work with. Click the Manage Audience drop-down and choose Import contacts. Choose Upload File.

How to update contacts in Audience?

If you want to update contacts that are already in your audience, check the box next to Update any existing contacts. Click Continue to Tag. If you want to assign tags to all of the contacts in your import, click the drop-down menu and choose or create tags as needed. You can also choose from popular tags.

Can you import a subscribed contact into a group?

Non-subscribed. Cleaned. If you import subscribed contacts, be sure that you have permission to send them marketing. If your audience has groups, you can import your contacts directly into the group of your choice. Navigate to the Select groups section and check the box next to each group that applies.

Can you categorize contacts in Mailchimp?

Can Mailchimp detect duplicates?

Because all audiences in Mailchimp are independent of each other, we can't detect duplicates, bounces, or unsubscribes across multiple audiences. If you have duplicate contacts in different audiences, you may find it helpful to combine your audiences into a primary audience that uses groups or tags.

Terminology

As the words Contact, Subscribers and Campaigns are used in Salesforce and in Mailchimp, I will always use the term MC Campaigns, MC Subscribers, SF Contacts and SF Campaigns to distinguish them.

What Mailchimp for Salesforce can't do

Check the Email Opt Out field in SF if the MC Subscriber unsubscribes in MC. See Example Process - Mailchimp Unsubscribe for a way to do this with Process Builder.

This is where the real power of Mailchimp comes in. You can sync any SF Contacts or SF Leads meeting any criteria, or SF Campaign Members to MC automatically. Eg you could

Tips

The MC Subscriber record in Salesforce contains the email Address of the Subscriber. When you do a general search in SF for that email address the MC Subscriber record is not found in the search.

Warnings

Be careful installing this or Campaign Monitor into an org that is tight on data storage. Or clean up your lists in Mailchimp before setting this up.
