External interactions...well, kind of
In the early days of Chatter, Salesforce created a couple Superbowl ads that portrayed Chatter as a standalone offering. The reality was nothing actually like this..ok, I understand these are meant to be conceptual, but they still come across much differently than what Chatter really was.
Integrations and automations? Yes, but..
As I have noted in the previous two articles, Slack is built for easily integrating with other systems, and there are over 1500 pre-built connectors available along with a robust set of APIs for building custom connectors.
And what about that rumor?
Having worked at Salesforce for several years, I saw first-hand the extent of Chatter’s largest user base. Marc Benioff made it his mission to get his employees to use it, and he succeeded, but it appears that Chatter is no longer the internal communication tool of choice.
Where Salesforce is headed
Looking to the future, Slack is clearly going to become the user engagement and interaction layer for Salesforce customers, with its ability to integrate across Salesforce clouds and non-Salesforce applications and systems.
